Two crosses were broken in Kurapaty memorial complex. It was noticed by members of the Conservative Christian BPF Party, who came to Kurapaty.
“Satan still reigns in the souls of some people, they hate Belarus, our history, our historical memory, us, our forefathers. We take this as the objective reality and will oppose the evil. We will protect and guard our shrine and not allow the fascist, satanic veil spirits make themselves at home here,” secretary of the Conservative Christian BPF Party Valer Buival told in an interview to Radio Svaboda.
The CCP-BPF gathered in Kurapaty today to clean the territory before Dzyady Day. We remind that it is planned to organize a march from the Watch Plant to Kurapaty forest on November 1.
Under different estimations, from 30 to 200 thousand of victims of Stalin’s regime were buried on the territory of historical complex Kurapaty, a place of execution of victims of political repressions in 1930–40ies, included in the State List of Historic and Cultural Values of Belarus.
Acts of vandalism have been committed in Kurapay several times. The vandals were indentified only one time. On May 30, 2009, two minor Minsk dwellers – a schoolboy and a student of a training school – accused of destruction of memorial crosses in Kurapaty, were pardoned before the trial. In the middle of June, the Baraulyane militia department suspended another criminal case over destruction of six memorial crosses in Kurapaty.
On April 10, Anton Astapovich, the head of the Belarusian Voluntary Society for Historical and Cultural Heritage Protection, offered the Ministry of Internal Affairs to organize patrolling of Kurapaty by soldiers of military unit 3310 – the second separate special militia brigade based in Akolitsa village (the Minsk region). The militia department of the Minsk region executive committee rejected the offer giving a number of objective reasons.
