Activists of the Conservative Christian Party BPF held an action dedicated to commemoration of victims of Stalinist repressions.

The picket was timed to the Day of Commemoration of the Dead (Dzyady), marked traditionally at the beginning of November.

The rally, permitted by the city authorities, began near the culture center of the worsted factory at noon on November 8. The participants moved to Loshitski Yar, where innocent people had been executed during Stalinist repressions.

The demonstrators carried flowers, white-red-white flags, party symbols and banners “Dzyady”. Militia officers and people in civvies watched the event, BelaPAN reports.

A meeting in memory of victims of Stalinist repressions was held in Loshytski Yar. The meeting ended with singing a hymn “God Almighty”. The demonstrators laid flowers to the cross of memory of the repression victims and lighted candles.

Speaking at the mournful meeting deputy head of the CCP BPF Yury Belenki said: “Every year we remember the people, slaughtered by Stalin’s regime. The elite of the Belarusian nation – scientists, writers, intellectuals – was killed at this site. Garages were built on this place, their ashes are buried under some meters of sand. This is done in order the Belarusians not to know the truth. These garages are a symbol of occupation, only occupants can do this.”

Belenki accused the current Belarusian authorities of “closing Belarusian schools, cultural environment and hindering wider use if the native language”.

The rally and meeting took more than an hour.
