Navumau leaving Belarus

The former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said at a session of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association he retires from a post of chairman of the Association.
“I’ve had enough time to find a job, and I’ve found a job abroad. I won’t be able to spend as much time as I would like on hockey, so I ask to appoint a special conference on January 21,” Uladzimir Navumau said.
Navumau said in an interview to “Salidarnast” he was leaving for Moscow.
– What did influence your decision to resign from a post of chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association?
– I am going to work in Moscow, so I won’t be able to pay due attention to the Association. My new job is a business project not linked to sport. A decision to resign from a post of head of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association wasn’t sudden.
– Can you give any details?
– I cannot. This is a commercial secret. The only thing I can say I will begin to work in the middle of January.
We remind that this is the second retirement for Uladzimir Navumau this year. Alyaksandr Lukashenka accepted resignation of Uladzimir Navumau from a post of interior minister. The official reason was problems with health.
Uladzimir Navumau is one of the oldest officials in the Belarusian power system. He was minister of internal affairs since September 2000. Earlier, he was a commander of Almaz, a special anti-terroristic detachment, and head of the Security Service of the Belarusian president.
As our website has already informed, Uladzimir Navumau has been on the list of persons restricted to enter the EU and US, his assets are frozen. Together with former secretary of the Security Council Viktar Sheiman, commander of special purpose unit Dzmitry Paulichenka, and former interior minister Yury Sivakou, he is suspected by the international community of involvement in abductions and murders of opposition leaders Viktar Hanchar, Yury Zakharanka, Anatol Krasouski, and journalist Zmitser Zavadski.
As an interior minister, Uladzimer Navumau became famous for personal participation in opposition protest rallies, commanding crackdown and beating of peaceful demonstrators.
