Norway celebrated two big events on Sunday.

May 17 is the National Day of this Scandinavian country. The Constitution of Norway was adopted 195 years ago that allowed the country to receive independence.

On that day the Norwegians were also celebrating that their countryman, Belarus born Alexander Rybak, won Eurovision Song Contest.

Prime Minister of Norway Jens Stoltenberg congratulated the winner:

“I was orientated continuously all the time by SMS and phones. We understood very early that it was going the right way. It’s nice that a boy, coming from Belarus with his family to Norway can do this thing for Norway,” the prime minister told in an interview to Euronews (VIDEO).

Representatives of Norway win Eurovision for the third time. The Ministry of Culture say they are already looking for a venue for the next contest.

Alexander Rybak was born in Minsk to a family of musicians on May 13, 1986. When he was five, his parents moved to Oslo suburb. He has never visited his native country since than.

Our countryman scored record 387 points at Eurovision beating the previous record of Finnish band Lordi (292) in 2006.
