Students decided to rebut BRSM

The civil initiative Student Council starts a campaign against forceful enrolling students in the pro-governmental Belarusian Republican Union of the Youth (BRSM).

As Radio Svaboda reports, the Student Council made a statement harshly criticizing the policy of the pro-governmental youth organization BRSM.

“A graduate must to have a departure clearance to get a diploma,” the statement says. “Some universities and colleges have a box for BRSM. You may face the next problem in a primary BRSM organization: you say your name and they say you are a BRSM member and must pay subscription (5000 rubles).”

The authors of the statement call on everyone who ahs faced this problem not to keep silence but joint efforts in combating arbitrary exactions.

“Join us – there are many people like you! Together we can gain justice and teach the BRSM to respect our views and desire to be or not to be a BRSM member,” the statement says.

The Student Council calls to contact them on students-campany@yhrm.org and tell about facts of extortion by the BRSM.

We remind that many Belarusian graduates faced a problem when they must have paid subscription for membership in the pro-governmental Belarusian Republican Union of the Youth (BRSM), though they didn’t have any relation to the organization.
