One million fine for white-red-white flag in Vitsebsk

A judge of the court of Chyhunachny court of Vitsebsk Uladzimir Shikarau has sentenced an activist of the Conservative Christian Party Belarusian Popular Front to 30 basic units’ fine (1 mln 50 thousand rubles).
Syarhei Kavalenka was charged with repeated violation of the law on holding mass meetings. Judge considered him holding an unsanctioned picket, Radio Svaboda informs.
The judge hasn’t allowed to attend the consideration of the case all those who wanted it: relatives of the convict and journalists.
Syarhei Kavalenka was detained on September 14 on Victory Square in Vitsebsk. He was charged with hoisting the national white-red-white flag. The oppositionist has spent the night in the remand prison.
