Orange Revolution’s Commandant appointed Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus

Roman Bezsmertny, a former Vice Premier on Administrative and Territorial Reform issues in Yulia Tymoshenko’s government, has become a new Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus.

The President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, has appointed Roman Bezsmertny Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus, “Obozrevatel” (Ukraine) informs.

44-year-old Bezsmertnyj is a teacher by education. He is a member of the presidium of the party “Our Ukraine”. In 2007-2009 he was in the position of the deputy head of the President’s secretariat. In 2005 he was Vice Premiere on Administrative and Territorial Reform issues in Yulia Tymoshenko’s government.

In the presidential election in 2004 Roman Bezsmertny was a deputy head of the electoral headquarters of Viktor Yushchenko, and during the Orange Revolution he was a Commandant of the public protest in Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti).

The previous Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Ihor Lykhovy was appointed to the position in February 2007.
