Justice Ministry of Belarus warned trade union for fund in support of strikes

Using a mutual fund can lead to serious problems for the Free Trade Union of Metalworkers.

The leadership of the trade union has been warned about that by the Justice Ministry.

As it was informed by the regional portal of Vorsha, workers of the “Lyos” enterprise in the town of Baran, as well as workers of other enterprises of the country can be on strike and having no concern for their wages. The Council of the Free Trade Union of Metalworkers has approved Regulations on creation of a mutual fund, udf.by reports.

According to the idea of the creators of the fund, the fund of trade union solidarity would be increased due to 10% of membership dues, and also thanks to voluntary donations. The means of the fund would be accumulated at the bank account of the trade union.

However, the Justice Ministry has a different opinion. According to the state agency, the fund might be used by the trade union “for material support of actions held with violation of the order prescribed by the law”.

The Justice Ministry has reminded that organizing and participation in an illegal strike will cause disciplinary, administrative or other responsibility under the law.
