Foreign press to be completely banned in Belarus

Foreign media products can be sold in Belarus only on permission of the Ministry of Justice.

BelTA news agency learnt this from the ministry, which gave comments on the rules of distribution of foreign newspapers and magazines in Belarus.

As the ministry explains, the order of issuing permissions for distribution of foreign media products is regulated by an appropriate ruling of the Council of Ministers of Belarus Nr 1849 of December 2, 2008.

In case of violation of the law on mass media expressed in illegal producing or distributing media products, an offender can be brought to responsibility on the ground of part 2 of article 22.9 of the Code of Administrative Offences.

“Belinfocentre a company distributing foreign papers and magazines, has been notified about this,” the Ministry of Information says.
