Departed under Sentence film presented in Minsk (Video)

Human rights activists released a movie about the death penalty.

“Departed under sentence” is a phrase used by prison officers to say a death row inmate has been executed. Film director Viktar Tratyakou and scriptwriter Palina Stepanenka chose it as the title of their film. The movie was shot as part of the campaign “Human Rights Activists against Death Penalty”, Radio Svaboda reports.

“It is the second film about the capital punishment problem. Each of the films focuses on different aspects. The first movie tells about executed Andrei Zhuk. This time we show what a person, who carries out executions, feels. One of the heroes is a former head of the so called firing squad at detention facility No. 1, Aleh Alkayeu,” campaign coordinator Andrei Paluda says.
