Brussels Declaration

We, the undersigned, gathered in Brussels on 17 October, 2012, call upon the institutions of the European Union to engage as much as possible with the cause of democratisation of Belarus. Valuing the work and effort, which certain institutions and individuals have undertaken in an effort to bring our country up to European standards, we consider that it is necessary to intensify activities in this direction.

It would be much harder for us to struggle for liberty and democracy in our country without the support and solidarity of the European institutions. We are aware that only Belarusian people can determine the democratisation of our country, but to make it happen in the near future we need comprehensive support from the countries of the European Union and the EU itself.

The European Union should call for the immediate release of all political prisoners and their rehabilitation as well as call for ceasing political repression.

Belarusian people deserve to enjoy the same economic and political conditions as the nations of the European Union currently experience. We are convinced that in the future our country will be a member of this community.

Long Live Belarus!
