The artist Ales Pushkin was released from prison in Smorgon.

His friends and acquaintances met him with flowers and songs. For all the 10 days of the arrest Pushkin was on a hunger strike, Radio Svaboda reports.

Ales Pushkin said that during the time of the imprisonment he was drawing all along. He got a parcel with pencils and paper. He promised to show journalists the prison album.

In the beginning of September painters Ales Pushkin, Gennadz Drazdou, Valiantsin Varanisha and a civic activist Uladzimir Shulzhytski organized an action to commemorate the head of the anti-communist underground in the post-war years Rastislav Lapitski.

They all went to a mess in a church which was served to commemorate innocently killed Rastislav Lapitski, and after that they walked in the city with self-painted portraits of Lapitski. In one of the silent streets they were stopped by police and taken to a police station, where protocols were composed on each of them for holding an unauthorized procession.

Later the court fined Gennadz Drazdou for 3 million rubles, Valiantsin Varanisha – for 1 million, the Smorgon activist Uladzimir Shulzhytski – for 3 million.

The convicts didn’t recognize themselves guilty and stated that they would file an appeal.
