Siarhei Kavalenka: Almost the whole nation is in opposition now

Former political prisoner thanked Belarusians for support and solidarity.
Siarhei Kavalenka answered the questions of the Radio Svaboda’s audience.
Former political prisoner is sure that the wave of popular resistance to the regime “will rise unexpectedly”.
“Oppositions is those who are against the incumbent authorities. Now almost the whole Litvin-Belarusian nation is in opposition. And one must not get disappointed in a nation”, - he says.
Siarhei Kavalenka reminded of solidarity which is necessary to achieve the release of the rest of political prisoners.
“In order to release the political prisoner solidarity is needed and constant political actions at the walls of the prisons and colonies”, - he said.
We would remind that the activist of the Conservative Christian Party Belarusian Popular Front Siarhei Kavalenka was sentenced for two years and one month in prison for violating the regime of the limitation of freedom punishment which he was sentenced to for hanging out a white-red-white flag on a Christmas tree in Vitebsk. From mid-December to end of March with a 20 days break Kavalenka was on a hunger strike which caused him 50 kilos loss of weight. Another hunger strike he had from 8 to 25 May.
On 27 September the political prisoner was released. His release can be connected to the fact that on 31 October the EU’s Council of Ministers is going to consider the issue of extending the sanctions against the Lukashenka regime. Apparently the dictator is intending to put up to sale the prisoners of conscience, releasing them one by one in favorable moments and refusing to unconditionally release all at once.
