Solidarity Day in Warsaw (Photo)

1

A picket calling to release Belarusian political prisoners was held in the Polish capital.

The solidarity picket took place near St. Anna Church at Krakowskie Przedmiescie. The event gathered about 30 people, among them director of the Belarusian House in Warsaw Zmitser Barodka, head of the Belarusian Civil and Political Representation in Lithuania Aleh Myatelitsa, charter97.org editor Natallia Radzina, representatives of MEP Marek Migalski's office and Belarusians from Poland, France, Switzerland and Belgium. They held national flags and portraits of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich and Zmitser Dashkevich.

The Belarusian Dream documentary about the events in Minsk on December 19, 2010, was shown at a big screen during the picket. Activists handed out leaflets with information about the situation in Belarus.

The picket was held in a crowded place of Warsaw. Passers-by came closer, put questions to participants and expressed their support.

Days of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners and disappeared politicians are held every 16th day of a month. Pickets are traditionally organised in different countries around the world.
