Aleg Alkaeu: Sivakou’s words are a signal to foreign politicians

The former head of the Investigation Isolation Ward number one in Minsk is sure, that Youry Sivakou is thinking of his own security.

Aleg Alkaeu believes that his statement, in which the former Minister of Interior is talking about his guilt in the disappearance of opposition politicians and civic activists, was a signal to foreign politicians, Radio Svaboda reports.

“His statement can be considered a signal to foreign politicians, who could be able to ensure his security and also a hint on any encroachments on his life will be considered only as a means to get rid of an important witness. I think, that politicians should consider this factor and really think of helping this man. I know, it was a difficult choice for him, but I appreciate that he found strength to make the right step”, - the former head of the Investigation Isolation Ward number one in Minsk told.

We would remind that recently the former minister has made an unexpected statement in an interview to the Pressball newspaper.

“Probably, any reasonable person who has never met me, but only knows Sivakou by hearsay, links this name to the disappeared politicians. Well… I take responsibility for that, there was my guilt in that and it will be there”, - he said.

In 1999 the acting Chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus Viktar Ganchar, a businessman Anatol Krasouski and a former Minister of Interior Youry Zakharanka disappeared without a trace.  Later a journalist Dzmitry Zavadski disappeared. Subsequently, document were published, indicating that it was a “death squadron” that dealt shortly with the politicians and civic activists, and it acted on a command of the top leadership of the country. Youry Sivakou was mentioned among the people involved in the kidnappings and murders. Later he, as well as other Belarusian officials, was denied entrance to the countries of the European Union because of that.
