Alexander Gerasimenya became a European champion

Belarusian swimmer wins gold in 50m freestyle at European swimming championships

Aleksandra Gerasimenya of Belarus clinched gold in the Women’s 50m freestyle at the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships held in Chartres, France, on 25 November 2012.

Aleksandra Gerasimenya finished in a time of 23.85. Triin Aljand of Estonia finished second in a time of 24.24, with Jeanette Ottensen Gray of Denmark finishing in third with a time of 24.33.

Another Belarusian athlete, Svetlana Khokhlova finished in a time of 24.81 (the sixth position). 

Belarus’ Yevgeny Tsurkin finished fourth in the Men’s 50 butterfly (22.83). He was only 0.11 seconds behind Ukraine’s Andrei Govorov. The gold medal went to Rafael Perez Munoz (22.53) of Spain. Frederick Bousquet of France touched for second in a time of 22.54.

Belarus has three medals after the four days of the events. On 22 November Belarus placed 3rd in the 4х50m freestyle relay final. The national team recorded 1.38,39 min - Yuliya Khitraya (25.12), Aleksandra Gerasimenya (23.68), Oksana Demidova (25.10), Svetlana Khokhlova (24.49). On 23 November Aleksandra Gerasimenya clinched silver in Women’s 50m butterfly. 

France topped the medal table (12 gold, 6 silver and 11 bronze medals). Denmark was second (six gold, four silver and two bronze medals), Hungary was third (six gold, four silver and two bronze medals). They are followed by Russia, Italy, Ukraine, Czechia, the UK, Spain and Belarus.
