Ukrainian students leave Belarus just after release from jail

Three students from Ukraine, who were detained in Minsk on November 15 and taken into custody for 10 days, left Belarus yesterday evening.

BelaPAN news agency learnt this from Aleksey Yemelyanenko, a press attaché at the Embassy of Ukraine in Belarus.

He stressed that the embassy had received the information about the arrested of students only on November 20 from Kyiv. “We began to work and contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the police. Our consul met with the detainees. They were released yesterday. The consul accompanied them and they left for Ukraine with their relatives,” Yemelyanenko said.

The press attaché doesn't know why the Ukrainian students were detained and why the Embassy of Ukraine wasn't informed about the incident.

Alyaksandr Lastouski, a spokesman for the Minsk police, says he doesn't have information explaining why the Ukrainian citizens were detained.
