Statkevich completely isolated in prison

They won’t allow a priest to visit the political prisoner, he does not receive letters and parcels.

The political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich up to the day has not seen an orthodox priest. Mikalai Statkevich told about a rejection to meet a priest already a month ago during his meeting with the archibishop Claudio Gugerotti. Then the prison’s administration another time promised to bring a priest to the political prisoner with blackmail and threats being used yet again. But at the moment of writing the letter, in a month after meeting the nuncio, the political prisoner Statkevich has not been taken to a priest – the priest was on a mission, according to the administration representatives.

As Mikalai Statkevich informs, on 25 October they finally turned on the heating in the prison. At the same time the cell where the former presidential candidate is kept is “with a stone floor despite the prison regime, and it is not very comfortable here in winter”.

The politician’s wife Maryna Adamovich says that he is the premises of an isolation ward, where, apparently, they do everything for a person to feel the hardest, lest comfortable, was more susceptive to pressure and would break.

“It is hard to imagine a concrete cage, where there is no sunlight, you cannot see the sky and trees, there is concrete even under your feet. And it all has been lasting 24 for hours a day, every day for 9 month already. And if we add what happened in Shklou then almost a year…” – Maryna Adamovich said to Belarusian Partisan.

A documentary director Volga Mikalaichyk received back the parcel that she sent to Mikalai Statkevich. There were postcards, letter and a book by a researcher of Belarusian folklore and symbolics Yanka Kruk. This edition is absolutely legally being sold in Sojuzpechat kiosks.

“The head of the prison number 4 behaves without much foresight as it is a prisoners’ rights violation. HE will have to respond for that”, - Volga Mikalaichyk points out.

On 12 January 2012 according to the decision of the Shklou district court Mikalai Statkevich was sentenced to a transfer for a prison regime for three years as a “malicious violator of the regime, who did not show signs of correction”. The same day he was transferred to Mogileu to the prison number 4.
