Excise duties on petrol to rise 20%, on alcohol – 61%

Excise duties on petrol will be increased by 20%, on cigarettes – 1.5-2.1-fold, on alcohol – by 11.8-61.6% from January 1, 2013.

These measures are set by law of the Republic of Belarus No. 431-Z of October 26, 2012, that amends the country's Tax Code, AFN news agency reports.

In accordance with the document, the excise duties will be 1,231,500 rubles per tonne for petrol with the octane rating of 95 and higher, 1,544,000 rubles per tonne for 91-95 RON petrol and 1,751,100 rubles per tonne for petrol with the octane rating below 91.

The excise duties on cigarettes also rise 1.5-2.1-fold on January 1, 2013.

The excise duties on cigarettes of group 1 (with the retail prices under Br5,000 per pack) will be set at  Br60,200 (hereinafter per 1,000 cigarettes) during the period from January 1 to June 30, 2013. It is 2.1-fold higher than the current excise duties. The excise duties will be increased 1.7-fold on July 1 to reach Br100,400.

The excise duties on cigarettes of group 2 (the retail prices from Br5,000 to Br8,000) will rise 1.7-fold to Br140,000 on January 1 and by 14.2% to Br160,000 on July 1.

The excise duties on cigarettes of group 3 (the retail prices higher than Br8,000) will be set at Br160,000 (a 1.5-fold increase) on January 1 and Br180,000 (a 12.4% increase) on July 1.

The excise duties on alcoholic beverages , beer and spirits will be increased by 11.8-61.6% on January 1, 2013.
