The local authorities based their reject on that the organizers were going to hold the action in the city’s center.
The application for the action was submitted by the Conservative Christian party BPF. As the response from the Vitebsk city’s executive committee says, there are places in the outskirts reserved for mass actions. The oppositionists wanted to walk from the railway station along Kirov street and later Lenin street and end the procession in Lenin square with a rally, Radio Svaboda reports.
The action’s aim is to talk to the city residents about the malign role of the communist ideology for Belarus’ development, about the activities of the communists on annihilation of the national culture, the language and the self-identification of the Belarusian nation.
