A political prisoner doesn't know he was awarded with prestigious Willy Brandt Prize, his wife says.
“Any award is important and pleasant, especially if you are in prison. The very fact of nomination is important, let alone giving the award by the respected jury. I am especially happy that Mikalai received the prize of Willy Brandt, the significant and legendary person in the European politics, who was called the chancellor of repentance,” Maryna Adamovich, the wife of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, told charter97.org.
The wife of the political prisoner says she will tell him about the award in the nearest days:
“Any support and any attention are important. It shows the interest in the problem of political prisoners doesn't decrease. I think he will be happy and say the same words. I am going to send a telegram to him and write a letter.”
Political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich was recently awarded with international Willy Brandt Prize for political courage. The prize was founded by the Social Democratic Party of Germany for achievements for international understanding.
Former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich was sentenced to 6 years in prison for the events on December 19, 2010. He was transferred to a maximum security prison in Mahilou last year, because he was given the status of “persistent violator of prison rules”.
