Raid on BCD activists in Vitebsk

BCD activists Alyaksei Kishchuk and Stanislau Lauronau have been detained and taken to the Pershamaiski district police department.

The traffic police stopped the car driven by Lauronau, Radio Svaboda reports.

The police officers decided to check documents of both the driver and the passenger. Alyaksei Kishchuk didn't have his passport, so he was taken to a police station to verify his identity.

Stanislau Lauronay is accused of disobeying orders of police officers, says Tatyana Sevyarynets, a coordinator of the BCD party:

“The reason for the detention is unclear: they were just riding in a car. On the other hand, today is December 19, the anniversary of the post-election protests. The Vitebsk police probably decided to take measures to prevent activity of opposition members.”
