Parfyankou appeals against parole denial

An appeal against the decision of the parole board has been filed on behalf of the political prisoner.

Human rights activists report that the parole board heard the issue on December 13 in detention facility No. 6 in Baranavichy. The board took a decision to deny parole to Parfyankou, because he “doesn't mend his way”, Viasna human rights centre reports.

The political prisoner had sanctions for minor violations of prison rules. Vasily Parfyankou doesn't agree with the decision of the board.

Vasily Parfyankou was detained in Minsk on January 4, 2011, on suspicion of involvement in the “mass disorders” on December 19, 2010. The court of Minsk's Frunzenski district sentenced him to 4 years in a maximum security penal colony. He served his sentence in a penal colony in Orsha until the release on August 11, 2011.

On May 29, Vasily Parfyankou was tried under article 421 of the Criminal code by Syarhei Bandarenka, a judge of Minsk's Pershamaiski district. He was put under preventive supervision on January 5, 2012. He was later accused of violation the supervision rules and arrested again for his social and political activity.

On July 24, the Minsk city court dismissed his appeal against 6 months  in custody for violating the rules of preventive supervision.

Vasily Parfyankou was taken into custody on August 9, 2012. He serves his sentence in the detention facility in Baranavichy.
