They did not accept books for Parfiankou in jail

A civic activist Rygor Gryk collected around forty books by Belarusian and foreign authors and tried to send them to the jail No 6 of Baranavichy on 3 December.

This is where the political prisoner Vasili Parfiankou is kept, the human rights center Viasna reports.

The deputy head of the jail Major Aliaksandr Pupko refused to call a librarian to inspect, asses and send the books for storage. Having consulted with the jail’s administration, Aliaksandr Pupko told Rygor Gryk that “our institution does not need books”.

- I know that the political prisoner Vasili Parfiankou is serving yet another term in the Baranavichy jail. Artem Babiy, Viachaslau Suharebski and others repeatedly sent letters to him, but nevere received responses. I hoped that they would at least take books for him and other prisoners, - Rygor Gryk told.
