Two independent journalists given warnings

These are members of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) Alina Radachynskaya and Volha Chaichyts.

Prosecution agencies have issued 8 written warnings to journalists since the beginning of the year, BAJ press service reports.

Both journalists were summoned to the Minsk prosecutor's office in the morning of March 28. They were issued written warnings.

The warnings differ only by names of journalists. Both are accused of cooperation with Belsat TV and warn against working as a journalist for foreign media without accreditation (article 35.4 of the Law on Mass Media). The paper dated of March 22 were signed by deputy prosecutor of Minsk Kezhun.

We remind the same warning was given to independent cameraman and BAJ member Dzmitry Krauchuk on March 2.

Earlier, similar warning were issued to:

Dzmitry Kisel (Brest) on March 19 (the warning is dated February 27); Hrazhyna Shalkevich (Hrodna) on February 27; Akyaksandr Dzynisau and Viktar Parfyanenka (Hrodna) on February 21; Mikalai Dzyatchenya (Hrodna) on Febraury 16. BAJ's request to the Hrodna prosecutor's office over the incident brought no results.

Besides, three journalists were warned orally by KGB in 2012: on January 20 – Hrazhyna Shalkevich, on February 22 – founder of Polatsk-based website “Svobodny Region” Yauheny Parchynski, on February 28 – Andrei Myaleshka.
