Canadian politologist denied visa to Belarusian

David Marples, a famous Canadian politologist and researcher of Belarus have been denied a visa by the Belarusian authorities.

Professor Marples said it on his Facebook page, Radio Svaboda reports.

David Marples is a Canadian historian and politologist, a professor of history and classics at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He is the director of a program for the study of contemporary Ukraine  at Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. He is an author of 12 books and more than 150 articles on historical and political problems in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. He was elected president of the North American Association for Belarusian Studies last year. He is an advisor on Eastern Europe at the US Department of State, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office. He published three books on Belarus: Belarus: From Soviet Rule to Nuclear Catastrophe (1996), Belarus: A Denationalized Nation (1999), The Lukashenka Phenomenon: Elections, Propaganda, and the Foundations of Political Authority in Belarus (2007).
