Banknotes Br10 and Br20 become not valid in 2014

From April 1, 2014, Belarusians will cease using Br10 and Br20 denominated banknotes issued in 2000 as they will become null and void.

Such a decision is contained in the decree № 266 of the National Bank of Belarus. The text of the document is posted on the National Legal Internet Portal.

The issuance of bank notes of Br10 and Br20 will be stopped even earlier - in September 2012, reads the resolution.

It’ll be possible to use new banknotes as a legal tender up to February 28, 2013, inclusive. Prior to April 1, 2014, all denominations of Br10 and Br20 should be withdrawn from circulation.

At the same time the exchange will be made without restrictions and without paying any commission in any amount multiple of Br50.

From March 1, 2013 to September 30, 2013 inclusive, one will be able to exchange Br10 and Br20 denominated notes at the National Bank and any other bank of Belarus, while from October 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014 - only in the National Bank of Belarus.

As charter97.org previously reported, according to chairman of the National Bank of Belarus Nadezhda Ermakova, it may soon be decided to round prices up to Br50. "The bills still fit in our purses, while zeros - in calculators and computers’ displays," said the NBB head, referring to the topic of inflation and denomination in the country.
