Artsybashau given three days in custody

On September 10, Minsk's Kastrychnitski district court sentenced Zmena activist Alyaksandr Artsybashau to three days in custody.
As the activist was detained on September 7 and spent three days pending trial in a detention facility, he was released after the court decision was pronounced, Viasna human rights centre reports.
Minsk's Maskouski district court hears an administrative case against Zmena leader Pavel Vinahradau. Two police officers gave their evidence at the trial.
Vinahradau and Artsybashau were detained in Minsk on September 7.
Vinahradau was detained early in the morning. Policemen detained him at his home and convoyed to the Maskouski district police department. They gave no explanations. Vinahradau was supposed to stand trial on September 7, but the court sent activist's file back for additional processing until Monday.
Arstybashau was detained on Friday at 4:30 p.m. near his home.
Both young men were accused of disorderly conduct. They spent three days in the detention centre in Akrestin Street.
It should be noted that another Zmena activist, Yahor Vinyatski, was detained in Minsk at his home on September 5. The Pershamaiski district court of Minsk found him guilty of disorderly conduct (swearing in public) and sentenced him to 10 days in custody.
Observers think the authorities tried to isolate youth activists, who became famous after their creative pickets with toys, ahead of Minsk Day celebration.
