Victims of Belarusian justice call to boycott «election»

“Elections” in Belarus lost their sense having turned into a farce, when members of parliament are not elected, but appointed by Lukashenka administration.

Fifty nine victims of the Belarusian judicial system expressed this opinion an in open appeal to Lukashenka administration, CEC head Lidzia Yarmoshyna, editors of Narodnaya Volya, Sovetskaya Beloryssia and Respublika.

Lyudmila Kachura gave the text of the open appeal to Belorusski Partizan website.

“Our country has another 'election' on September 23, 2012. It is the election to the supreme representative and legislative body of the Republic of Belarus, which is called the 'parliament'. But we know the value of this title. We know it from our own experience and correspondence with MPs, who sent formal replies to our appeals. It proves the formal power of such MPs and the legislative branch.

The country is supposed to live under laws adopted by members of parliament. But Belarusian officials, including MPs themselves, are constantly breaking the law. That's the reason why we have lawfulness. Adopting new laws in this situation will only contribute to further disregard of law and shelter it.

'Elections' in Belarus lost all sense having turned into a farce, when MPs are not elected, but appointed by Lukashenka administration. This 'election' means nothing for us. We will not take part in it exercising our right to decide whether to vote in the election or call for a boycott (articles 5 and 45 of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus).

We, a group of people from different regions of Belarus, refuse to vote and announce a boycott of the 'election'.

We urge everyone who suffered from misuse of power by officials and all free-thinking people of Belarus to join us and declare a boycott.

You need to overcome the fear. Do it for yourselves, your children and grandchildren! Think in what country they will have to live, what we leave them, what they will say about us. Our future depends not only of the minimum of “bread and cup' and some hundreds of dollars imposed on us by the authorities. Much more is needed for our children to have a dignified life. It is the government that serves its people honestly.

We call on representative of Lukashenko administration and the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Referendums to explain why provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Code of Belarus relating to the right of people to have honest and transparent elections are being violated,” the appeal reads.
