Anatol Liabedzka: The regime is “throwing a bone” to the ones who participate in the elections till the end

The oppositionists, who participate in the farce, have given the regime a room for maneuver, the politician believes.

The chairman of the United Civic Party (UCP) Anatol Liabedzka commented charter97.org the statement of the head of the Central Electoral Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna that the elections will be announced valid at the 90% of the polling stations.

“From this statement it can be concluded that at 5-6 polling stations there will be a second round of voting, may be at some single polling station the authorities will even admit that the elections were not successful. All the previous parliamentary elections were successful in the first round with appointment of 100% of the pro-government candidates”, - the politician told.

“Thus the regime is playing games and “throwing a bone” to the once who participate till the end as well as to the international observers. The boycott campaign made this electoral campaign the worst of all ever held for the authorities”. And by participating in the farce till the end some opposition candidates have created a room for maneuver for the regime. As now international observers will be able to say that there is an improvement – first at parliamentary elections the authorities admitted that elections went unsuccessfully at some polling stations”, - Anatol LIabedzka noted.

“I think in 5-6 constituencies the situation may be put on hold before acquaintance with the OSCE observation mission’s report. If it remains strict and principled, than the authorities will appoint the remaining pro-government parliament members. If the OCSE envoys agree with Lukashenka’s right to appoint 110 parliament members (from opposition as well as the pro-government ones), then couple of people belonging to opposition will be let into the puppet parliament ”, - the UCP chairman thinks.

“If all the opposition candidates refused to participate altogether, than it would have shown that these are sham elections and the electoral campaign would have lost all the sense”, - the politician highlighted.
