International observers point out that Belarusians are boycotting the elections.
Andrzej Jaworski from the Polish “Law and Justice” party, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s observer, thinks that Belarusian elections are far from democratic standards. “In no EU country will you see counters with discounted sausages or alcohol at polling stations. In Belarus that is exactly the way to attract voters to the polling stations. But even despite the “electoral sausages” people don’t come vote”, - the observer told to the TVP Info channel (translation - charter97.org).
“We can’t see people at the polling station, whereas the commission members report about a certain percentage of the ones having voted”, - the observer said. That is why, he believes, the main task for the observers now is to control the number of voters as for Lukashenka it is very important that the elections go with a high turnout, so it makes sense to expect that the main falsifications will be dealing exactly with that.
Andrzej Jaworski, who is observing the elections in the Minsk region, noted also, that at many polling stations there’s only one candidate running and the candidate’s pictures are displayed not only in front of the polling station, but inside as well. “So the authorities have the total control over who is going to be elected here”, - the observer states.
Answering the TVP Info news host’s questions whether he heard the Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s statement, that the Poles could learn how to arrange elections from Belarus, Andrzej Jaworski said: “I participated in and observed a lot of elections and votings, including the ones in Egypt as they were changing the Constitution, and I want to say that even the Egyptians very well realized what democracy was and there were no violations like the ones that we see in Belarus”.
