A German official condemns the course and result so the “elections” in Belarus.
According to Chancellor Merkel's Chief of Staff Ronald Pofalla, the “elections” in Belarus have nothing in common with the choice between real political alternatives.
“We cannot remain silent when freedom is under threat,” Ronald Pofalla told journalists.
High-ranking officials say Germany and its European partners will continue to apply efforts seeking the release of political prisoners, strengthening the Belarusian civil society and isolation of Lukashenka and his regime.
“The blatant violations in these elections make it clear to everyone that Belarus is the last dictatorship in the heart of Europe,” German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said Monday in Berlin.
These statements were caused by the results of the work of the OSCE observation mission in Belarus that pointed at numerous frauds in the “parliamentary elections” and said the “elections” can be called neither free nor democratic, Radio Svaboda reports.
