In the Minsk region there posters appeared calling to hold the hockey World Championship in Belarus in 2014.
Democratic activists are calling for cancellation of the 2014 World Championship, ffight.org reports.
“A World Championship in hockey can’t be held in Belarus at least for three reasons: there are still political prisoners in the country, there’s no freedom of speech and fair election in Belarus. The championship’s cancellation is a serious blow to the dictator’s image, that’s why it’s necessary to do all the possible for this event not to be held in Belarus”, - the activists claim.
We would remind, that the action’s initiator is the MEP Marek Migalski and the action’s goal is to cancel the World hockey Championship in Belarus in 2014. The MEP runs a campaign “Leave the dictator on ice”, which includes signature collection to the appeal to the International Ice Hockey Federation and the National Federation for the right to hold the championship to be handed over to another country. The action’s initiator addresses everyone asking to support the initiative. This can be done by sending a letter to the IIHF and the national hockey federations or signing an online petition at www.dyktatornalodzie.pl.
