Bakiev’s extradition was demanded from the UN’s rostrum

Bishkek demands Belarus to fulfill its international obligations.

The parliamentary speaker of Kyrgyzstan Asilbek Zhaenbekov announced that speaking at the 67th session of the UN’s General Assembly.

“We still hope that the authorities of Belarus, which is Kyrgyzstan’s ally in the framework  of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation and Eurasian Economic Community and a country which took obligations according to the Minsk and Kishinev Conventions, will stay true to the international legal obligations and will extradite the relatives and the close ones of the former Kyrgyzstan president Kurmanbek Bakiev, who are hiding in Belarus and even have Belarusian passports”,- the ITAR quotes the speaker.

Official Bishkek has been repeatedly demanding from Minsk to extradite Bakiev’s relatives, however didn’t use the UN’s tribune for that. Addressing the assembly, Asilbek Zhaenbekov highlighted that “the former Kyrgyzstan’s establishment and its close circles are not being persecuted for political reasons, but being accused of specific criminally liable acts”. “They gave orders to use firearms against peaceful citizens, to destroy the ones out of their favor, they robbed their own people and the country’s budget and withdrew huge sums of financial assets from the country”, - the speaker said.

“In such issues justice and inevitability of punishment are important for other rulers had no temptation to get away with such things”, - Zhaenbekov claimed, adding that the guilty must be put to trial “in strict accordance with Kyrgystan’s laws”.
