Dzyanis Sadouski: Authorities try to stop boycott campaign

An activist of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party has been released after 10 days in custody.
BCD executive secretary Dzyanis Sadouski tells the website charter97.org how he was kidnapped.
“I was detained on August 28, Tuesday, close to Pushkinskaya metro station, near a McDonald's restaurant. I was pasting a big poster calling to boycott the election to an election advertising board. Two policemen came to me, pushed me into a police bus, took away my cell phone and drove to the Frunzenski district police department. I spent there four hours, because policemen couldn't decide what they should do with me,” Sadouski says.
“Finally, they drew up a fake report against me. They said I was swearing when I was pasting the poster, provoked a fight and disobeyed police. I didn't agree with the accusation, but I was sentenced to 10 days in custody. I was taken to a detention centre in Akrestin Street. Confinement conditions were terrible there. I was constantly being moved from one cell to another. I changed five cells during ten days. Three of them didn't have glass in windows. It was very cold. It was like torture,” the activist stressed.
“Cell-mates treated me and other political activists well. I received parcels every day. The whole detention centre heard when BCD activists came to support me. The support made these ten days run fast,” the BCD executive secretary says.
“I connect my arrest to the ongoing boycott campaign. Of course, the authorities try to neutralize the campaign. A boycott is the only thing that can unite pro-opposition minded people. Only a boycott can show there are no fair elections in the country. I am sure we are on the right way and the boycott campaign will be successful. I am sure people will not vote. I call to be brave and promote the idea of boycotting,” Dzyanis Sadouski says.
We remind BCD activist Dzyanis Sadouski disappeared on August 28. He became unavailable in the morning. His whereabouts were unknown until evening. Dzyanis Sadouski's relatives received information about 10-day term in custody for him only in the evening.
