The trial against a former deputy interior ministers begins today.

The trial is conducted by the Military Board of the Supreme Court in the Belarusian Military Court.

Yauheny Paludzen is charged with abuse of power and bribery. He is charged with violating part 3 of article 424 of the Criminal Code (official misconduct), parts 2 and 3 of article 426 (abuse of power by an official) and part 3 of article 430 (accepting bribes).

Paludzen was detained on December 8, 2011. A week later, he was charged with violating part 3 of article 424 of the Criminal Code (official misconduct). The second criminal case against Paludzen was initiated in February 2012 over part 3 of article 426 (abuse of power by an official). Both cases were consolidated. Investigators revealed that Paludzen had been receiving material values and money on a regular basis for a long time.

Yauheny Paludzen was appointed deputy interior minister and public security police chief on August 4, 2009.

He was in charge of dispersals of opposition rallies.
