Vital Rymasheuski: No elections in Belarus today

There's no sense in talking about a single opposition candidate for the 2015 elections.

This statement was made by Vital Rymasheuski, a co-head of the organising committee to create Belarusian Christian Democracy party, at a press conference in Minsk on January 16, BelaPAN reports.

According to him, certain requirements should be proposed for the authorities. If the are fulfilled, the opposition will run in the elections. “There are no elections in Belarus today. If someone thinks Lukashenka has the right to run in presidential elections, we have different ways,” Rymasheuski said.

The politician noted that BCD party receives many proposals regarding the 2015 presidential elections. “Our strategy is to make joint programmes to protect the rights of Belarusians. Only joint work can unite us,” he says.

Rymasheuski thinks the opposition “should not take part in an attempt to deceive Belarusians, I mean the 2015 elections”. He said the campaign of the BCD party and other opposition organisations to boycott the 2012 parliamentary elections was successful.

Rymasheuski said the BCD party would hold consultations with the United Civil Party  to work out joint actions. The BCD also plans to have discussions with independent trade union organisations and other bodies.
