The Belarusian MFA has not received a letter from MEP Marek Migalski about a meeting with political prisoners Zmitser Dashkevich and Mikalai Statkevich.
Radio Svaboda learnt it from MFA spokesman Andrei Savinykh:
”We haven't received a letter. I can only recommend you to ask Migalski how he had sent the letter. We do not consider messages spread via the mass media.”
Anna Bialas, Migalski's assistant, says the letter was sent yesterday.
”I don't know when the letter will be delivered. To speed up the process, we will also send a fax. Let's see how they will react. Frankly speaking, we have little hope, because we know how the Belarusian authorities respond to such letters. We made several appeals earlier, for example, regarding confinement conditions for political prisoners and always received replies that conditions were good and we wrote lies. It's highly possible that we will get the same answer now.”
Bialas says Marek Migalski has been showing his solidarity with Dashkevich and Statkevich for several months trying to attract the attention of Poland and the international community to the political prisoners and human rights situation in Belarus.
