“Spy case”: Lawyer cannot visit Haidukou

Andrei Haidukou, who is accused of spying, wasn't allowed to see his lawyer in the KGB jail on January 3.

Andrei Haidukou is to have a face-to-face interrogation with a new suspect in the case.

There were no vacant rooms for meetings with inmates, Andrei Haodukou's lawyer was told as he made the third attempt to see his client. Radio Svaboda learnt it from activist's mother Volha Haidukova.

“You know, they did everything not to find vacant rooms. The lawyer has permission for a visit, but they create conditions not to allow a meeting.”

Volha Haidukkova says her son was transferred to Minsk on December 22. He had been in a detention centre in Valadarski Street until December 27 and then in the KGB jail. Jail staff accepted a parcel for Haidukou from his sister on December 29, but his mother doesn't know if Andrei received it.

Andrei Haidukou, a worker of Naftan plant in Navapolatsk, was arrested on November 9 and accused of spying. According to the KGB, Andrei Haidukou was detained as he was “installing a dead drop with information interesting for foreign secret services”. European Belarus civil campaign released a statement saying the activist was detained for distributing Charter'97 newspaper.
