Director of large construction company goes on trial in Brest

The trial of the director of a large private construction company opened in the Brest Regional Court on Tuesday.

Mikalay Klimuk, who headed Brest-based company TAA Oblik, was arrested in May 2012. He has been charged with abusing his office, exceeding his authority, embezzling money and avoiding the repayment of debts and failing to comply with a court order.

In particular, the executive is accused of misappropriating money received from clients.

According to investigators, Oblik is believed to have sold off-plan apartments to clients and used the money for other construction projects. The company also missed housing construction deadlines and demanded extra payments from clients.

A total of 435 clients of the company have the status of victim in the case.
