Baumgertner waits for extradition to Russia

Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner doesn't insist on meeting with representatives of the Russian embassy.

Interfax-West news agency learnt it on Thursday from Vladimir Marchukov, a counselor at the Russian embassy in Minsk.

“There were no new requests from Baumgertner for a meeting with embassy representatives. He probably waits for the extradition to Russia in the near future. We (the embassy) do not initiate new meetings either,” the embassy representative said.

“He gave a clear understanding at a meeting with consular officers in late September that he wouldn't insist on additional meetings,” Marchukov added.

He explained that “as a rule, consular officers ask in such situations if a detainee's rights are being violated and if he has complaints”. “Baumgertner didn't have complaints and additional requests,” the representative of the embassy said.

“The issue of Baumgertner is in the competence of prosecution agencies of the two countries. His extradition depends on them,” Marchukov noted.

He also said that “there's little information” from Baumgertner's lawyers recently.

It was reported earlier that Baumgertner asked his Belarusian lawyers not to give comments.
