Platt nets two to lead Dinamo Mn past Yugra

Dinamo Minsk took a 5-3 victory over visiting Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk to leave the bottom of the Western Conference chart they hit losing 2-5 to Barys Astana this week.

The Belarusian team treated their fans to unforgettable moments rolling over Yugra in the first two periods with a five-goal burst. Dinamo’s captain Alexei Kaluzhny took Tomas Surovy’s pass on the left to open the score with almost seven minutes into the game. Less than a minute later the scoreboard was showing 2-0. Geoff Platt picked up the pass in the middle zone and raced to Yugra’s goal to beat Mikhail Biryukov from almost zero angle. Guntis Galvins pulled one back for Khanty-Mansiysk with one-man advantage. The guests had another good opportunity in the first period but the puck hit the post.

Dinamo tallied three more in the second period, with two again scored within less than a minute. Lukas Krajicek gave his team a 3-1 lead firing from the center of the guests’ zone. Tomas Surovy fed by Alexei Kaluzhny after winning a faceoff onetimed the fourth for the Minskers. 35 seconds later Geoff Platt turned the light in Yugra’s goal with his second goal in the match.

Yugra got two more goals by Mikhail Zhukov and Veli-Matti Savinainen but were not given a chance to dig out of the five-goal hole they fell into in the first two periods.

Dinamo Minsk next play Avangard Omsk on Friday, 4 October.
