Priest's Lazar case falling apart (Video)

Representatives of the Catholic Church are sure that the arrested priest is innocent.

Priest Yury Barok said it in Two vs Two programme on Belsat television.

The priest thinks arrested Uladzislau Lazar is not guilty of the offences he is charged with.

“We were very surprised when we finally hear about the charges after three months of silence. After three months of interrogations and isolation he is charged with passing valuables or money. It's funny. The case of Lazar is falling apart. He is not guilty,” Yury Barok said.

The priest is confident that the Catholic Church will do its best to release Uladzislau Lazar.

“When say that Metropolitan Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz probably does too little – asks and calls to pray – we must think if he can do something else. Let's remind Stalin's famous question: 'How many divisions does Vatican have?' What are waiting for? Paratroopers from Vatican or Metropolitan's calls to gather outside the KGB jail and demand the release?” he said.

Priest Uladzislau Lazar is officially charged with treason (part 1, article 356 of the Criminal Code). His criminal responsibility is defined by paragraph 6 of article 16 of the Criminal Code (complicity). He may face up to 15 years in prison. Lukashenka said earlier that the secret services had detained a “traitor” who “had ties with foreign states through representatives of the Catholic Church and not only gave information but also did damage to people working abroad.”
