Lukashenka's remarks edited again (Video)

The Belarusian ruler announced extraordinary generosity during his visit to BELAZ plant on October 8.

“We think now how to support women and families,” he said. “I was shown the project 'Big Family'. It provides that we put, let's say, $10,000 into a bank account after the first baby is born, $20,000 after the second baby is born and double this sum after the third baby is born. If you put your own money into this account for your future second and third children, we double this amount.”

As Nasha Niva newspaper calculates, in this case the state would have to pay over $2 billion for children annually.

These plans don't look real taking into consideration the economic situation in the country. It was confirmed by the authorities, which applied severe censorship to Aliaksandr Lukashenka's remarks: all specifics were cut out of his speech. The official website of Lukashenka published the following information:

“The president also touched on the topic of supporting families with children. According to him, the project 'Big Family' is under development in Belarus proposing different variants of support to families with children. In particular, a possibility of opening a bank account with money for the birth of a child is being discussed. It is planned that the amount will rise significantly if the family has another child.”

Salidarnsts notes that neither official news agency BelTA nor Sovetskaya Belorussia newspaper mentioned the particular figures in their coverage of Lukashenka's visit to BELAZ plant. Those who believed the Belarusian dictator and decided to have more children can abandon hope for tens of thousands of dollars.
