Belarusian prosecutors allowed representatives of the Russian diplomatic mission to meet with arrested Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner, RIA Novosti reports.
“We received a fax from a prosecutor's office on November 11 allowing us to have a meeting with Baumgertner,” the embassy reports.
The place and the time of the meeting will be appointed later.
The first request for the meeting was sent on November 1, but the embassy didn't receive a reply.
Trading relations between Russia and Belarus deteriorated after the arrest of Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner at the airport in Minsk on suspicion of abuse of power and causing damage to Belarus. The Belarusian Investigation Committee opened criminal cases against Suleiman Kerimov, Uralkali chief and other top managers of the company. Baumgertner is under house arrest in a rented flat in Minsk.
The size of the damage is estimated by investigators at about $100 million.
