Belarusian citizens killed in attack in Yemen

Another Belarusian was wounded.

On Tuesday citizens of Belarus suffered an armed attack in Yemen’s capital Sana, one of them killed, the other wounded, they stated at the embassy of Russian Federation to Yemen.

“At 9.15 two citizens of Belarus underwent an armed attack as they were exiting the Amsterdam hotel in Sana city center. They worked in Yemen by a private contract”, - the press-attaché of Russia’s diplomatic mission Nikolai Lyagushin told Interfax.

“One of them was killed and the other one seriously wounded”, - the agency’s interlocutor added.

Earlier the local media reported that the people, who suffered the shooting, were of Russian citizenship.

In turn an official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Yemen colonel Mohammed al-Mauri reported that the shot foreigners were military experts, who worked for the country’s Defense Ministry.

Belarus’ MFA is verifying the information on the armed attack at Belarusians in Yemen.

“We are currently verifying the information, clarifying the circumstances of the incident”, - stated the deputy head of the MFA’s information department Maryja Vanshyna.

We would remind that earlier on Tuesday media reported of an armed attack in Yemen’s capital Sana at two foreign citizens, who allegedly worked as military advisors for one of the units of president’s guard of the country’s armed forces. One of the foreigners died on the spot to a wound in the head. According to preliminary information, this was a man of 60-65 years old of Slavic appearance. The other victim was seriously wounded and was taken to the nearest hospital’s resuscitation department in critical condition. Doctors are still fighting for his life.

According to the local Ministry of Internal Affairs, the fire was started by people, who approached the crime scene and left it by motorcycle.
