Former political prisoner Malchanau summoned to court

Former political prisoner Malchanau summoned to court

The court will consider the extension of preventive supervision.

Aliaksandr Malchanau reported about that on his Facebook page.

“Yesterday I received a subpoena summoning me to the trial on the extension of preventive supervision. The sitting will take place on 4 January 2014 at 9.40”, - the former political prisoner wrote.

We would remind that Aliaksandr Malchanau was detained in Barysau on 6 January 2011 in connection with the Square manifestation criminal case. Aliaksandr was charged with two case on “mass disturbances”: participating in mass disturbances and an affront to state’s symbols. He was put in KGB custody.

On 2 March 2011 he was sentenced to 3 years in high security penal colony by Minsk Frunze district’s court. He served the term in the penal colony number 15 in Mahilou, from which he was released on 14 September 2011 among other political prisoners by Lukashenka’s pardon.

Soon another criminal case was filed against Aliaksandr. In November 2011 he was arrested in Barysau for the second time and put into custody. This time the oppositionist was accused of stealing scrap metal. Aliaksandr could not find a job, since no one would hire him after a political trial, so he provided for himself and pensioner parents by collecting scrap metal. He says that town’s residents would enter the territory of the plant, which was not guarded, for metal production waste. On 9 April 2012 he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in high security penal colony. He was released in summer 2013.
