Secret services delete “Stop Fear” group

The police searched the flat of the activist suspected of opening a pro-opposition group on VKontakte social network.

The secret services suggested Anton Kastsou from Mahilou had a bearing on the group “Stop Fear”. A deputy chief of the Mahilou police visited the man at home and made him write explanations. On December 24, the activist made a statement denying his involvement in the creation of the group, but said he could delete his comments. He consulted with human rights defenders and went to Mahilou's Kastrychnitski police department. He spent there three hours and went home accompanied by police officers, Radio Svaboda reports.

Uladzimir Shantsau, the chair of the regional branch of the United Civil Party, called the activist's mother, who said their home had been searched.

Human rights defender Barys Bukhel said police could seize a computer to check all contacts and find the founders of the group.

The group “Stop Fear” on VKontakte social network was opened to hold weekly protests. The first protest action against the new car duty was scheduled for December 27. The group is unavailable now.
