Oleksandr Sushko: Ukrainian ruler tries to escape responsibility

By flying to China the president of Ukraine tries to distance himself from any developments in the country.

Oleksandr Sushko, the research director of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, spoke to charter97.org about Viktor Yanukovych's visit to China.

“It is a state visit that was arranged long ago. But the logic of conduct of such high-ranking officials allows escapes and retreats. If you have problems, you should go as far as you can,” the expert says.

Oleksandr Sushko adds that “the events may develop in this direction or another, but the boss has left and doesn't bear responsibility for it. Trying to distance yourself is the main thing.”

“On the one hand, it is a planned visit, but on the other hand, it is a good excuse, because Yanukovych would feel very uncomfortable here if he had to deal with the current situation every day. Of course, Yanukovych goes to China to look for money in the form if loans, investments and projects,” the research director of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, said.

Viktor Yanukovych said yesterday he wouldn't cancel his visit to China on December 3-6 due to the current situation in the country.
