84 thousand signatures in support of Ales Bialiatski

The Belarusian ambassador in the Netherlands was passed a golden coin with Ales Bialiatski’s portrait and 84 thousand signatures for his release.

On 8 February Henk Hulshof, the European coordinator of the international human rights organization Amnesty International, and Harry van Bommel, a member of the European Parliament, met the Belarus’ ambassador in The Hague, Nasha Niva reports.

Alena Grytsenka was handed in 84 thousand signatures, collected in support of Ales Bialiatski, with a golden coin with the portrait of the politically imprisoned human rights activist engraved on it and the writing “Free Ales Bialiatski”.

Apart from that more than 6600 people transferred one cent to the banking account of the embassy with a payment note “For the release of Ales Bialiatski”.

We would remind that the head of the human rights center Viasna was sentenced to 4.5 years in priosn in November 2011. He was found guilty of alleged tax evasion. The human rights activist did not acknowledge the guilt and stated that all the money, transferred to his accounts were used for human rights activities.
